If the Guardian has got its story straight, it looks as if some lucky Sun readers may be able to catch Simon 'Shirtless' Keenlyside baring his titular assets on the cheap.
The Royal Opera House season proper begins on 10 September, but there's going to be a special advance showing of Don Giovanni for Sun readers on 8 September. Tickets will cost no more than £30 (the regular top price is - gulp - £195) and application details will be published in the 30 July issue of the Sun.
Whether this will help the ROH satisfy its funding remit by broadening the audience is debatable. Like the ENO's Sky Seats discount scheme, some beneficiaries may be regular operagoers who simply use it as an opportunity to get in for less {{{blushes}}}. But at least ordinary taxpayers will have the chance to see how their arts funding pennies are being spent without forking out a fortune for the privilege.
