Congratulations to Felicity Palmer, a memorable Marquise de Berkenfeld in Covent Garden's recent La fille du régiment, and now a real life Dame!
Felicity Palmer has been a great treasure in the States as well. Memorable, vivid characterizations seem to come naturally to her. Aside from "La Fille," she was quite wonderful in the Met's "Peter Grimes" and currently in "Pelleas et Melisande." My first encounter with her was in a years ago recording of Delius's "A Village R&J."

Yes - well deserved and long overdue, but why have Heather Harper and Josephine Veasey not been Damed? Their careers were just as international and illustrious as either of the Dame Felicities.
