Houston, we have a rumour.
Is Bryn Terfel about to pull out of the Royal Opera's Meistersinger date in Birmingham on 11 January?
UPDATE 5.1.12 - Yes he is. It's now official - he apparently has a chest infection.
Did one of his sons break a nail?

I think it is more than a rumour. By the way, last night Peter Coleman-Wright had lost his voice so Beckmesser was sung by Christopher Purves from the side of the stage. We were not short-changed

In deed we were not - !
They were so in sync that the illusion was near perfect.
If Koch is anything like last night then the Brummies are in for a treat.
Ps anyone know - is the Brum preformance in costume/semi staged or straight concert ?

This time it's a chest infection... http://www.thsh.co.uk/event/the-royal-opera-die-meistersinger/
But when was he going to get it back into his voice (for one performance) anyway...?

They must be worried about Bryn's ability to sing four Ring cycles this Autumn. Presumably they won't panic if he completes all three of the Met's cycles in April/May, but I wonder if John Tom is standing by, yet again, to fill in if Bryn craps out.

Do chest infections last that long? Poor Bryn and such a strapping looking lad too. He will never last for all those Rings next autumn; John Tom standing by? I would want a better voice than his is these days for the amount of money the tickets were costing! When will the ROH ever become a half decent Wagner house?

I am not aware of Bryn cancelling more than any other opera singer....the last time he cancelled that I am aware of was July 2011 when he got an upper respiratory infection at Verbier, and he filled in for someone in Elijah (learning German in a short amount of time) who had also fallen ill before he got sick himself. What a bunch of unappreciative whiners you are...Bryn has excelled at the Met Ring so I can't wait for all of you to eat your words in the fall. People get sick...it's disappointing, but at least he has the good sense not to damage his voice by singing a nearly 6 hour opera. The Bryn bashing on this site is appalling. What do you want the man to do, drag himself on stage when he's not well? Apparently.
