After singing for, in his own words, "nearly 40 years", Thomas Quasthoff has decided to call it a day for health reasons. It's something the 52 year old says he had been considering for a long time. He cancelled several concerts last year after a throat infection, and feels he can no longer perform at the level he would like to. "I owe a lot to this wonderful profession and leave without a trace of bitterness," he said.
He will continue teaching and giving masterclasses, and he also has lectures and speaking events planned.
