Congratulations Marianne Glittenberg, Kostüme-lady, on the cut of your trouser. Just released, photos from today's dress rehearsal of Sven-Eric Bechtolf's new Salzburg Festival production of Ariadne auf Naxos, where Jonas Kaufmann plays the Tenor and Bacchus.
Bechtolf is using Strauss's first version of the opera rather than the far more commonly performed second. Instead of Strauss's Prologue, there's a play, Molière's Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme (in a truncated version, judging by the performance timings), and the opera itself gets a few extra arias.
Not quite sure what the production concept is here, but I'll be seeing it on opening night (29 July) and hope to report back in due course.
