ENO have finally admitted their prices are far too high.
In yet another wheeze to fill those acres of empty seats with fresh young faces, Terry Gilliam, 71, and Damon Albarn, 44, front a campaign offering not just cut-price tickets for virgin operagoers, but the conceivably deal-clinching permission to wear jeans.
Quite how this is supposed to build a long-term audience when anyone taking up the special £25 tickets will be faced with the standard bill of £100ish for their next visit is anybody's guess. But then commonsense seems to have deserted the ENO marketing team along with taste.
Naturally they fail to mention that most ENO shows can be seen for far less than full price via discount offers anyway. The latest is for the "disappointing" new Julius Caesar. Dress circle tickets can be had for just £20 (75% off) via lastminute.com.
Thank you Benedict, Richard and Anon for locating.
*****UPDATE*****
Thanks to Richard for commenting below with another offer, this time via Theatremonkey: £20 for second price dress circle or £10 for upper circle, with code METROCAESAR when booking on eno.org. Not valid on 31st Oct or 2nd Nov.
