Charles Cottet: Loge à l'Opéra-Comique
An opera house in Paris is taking audience participation to new extremes.
The Opéra Comique, which coincidentally provides part of the setting for Reynaldo Hahn's Ciboulette, is mounting a new production of the operetta. Gentils spectateurs are invited to join in with some of the choruses from the comfort of their seats.
But it's not a free-for-all. Around 2oo ticket buyers registered for advance 3 hour coaching sessions, and the chorus master will take further willing victims through a couple of songs just before each show begins.
