Fin de partie is based on Samuel Beckett's Endgame and named after the play's original French title. It was commissioned by the Salzburg Festival, who will show it in the summer of 2014.
Beckett's play is set in an empty room with two small windows. One of its characters can't sit, one can't stand, and the other two live in dustbins. The writer said "Any production of Endgame which ignores my stage directions is completely unacceptable to me." An American theatre that concocted its own version was sued by Beckett's publisher. Will Bondy - the man who tossed Tosca's candlesticks - dare to deviate? He could always plead operatic immunity.
