Martha Argerich stepping in for her great friend Maria João Pires at the Royal Festival Hall? That did sound too good to be true when it was announced back in March.
Now it seems we're not going to get the Argentinian piano goddess after all; Pires is back on the bill for the Orchestra Mozart's 1 October concert.
What's more, Claudio Abbado has withdrawn on doctor's orders, so the all-Beethoven concert will now be conducted by Bernard Haitink.
On the plus side, this is likely to mean some ticket availability for the long sold-out date.
