This is what it looks like backstage in Berlin, where Anna Netrebko and Placido Domingo are rehearsing Il trovatore. Role debuts for the pair of them.
Philipp Stölzl's (long sold out) new production opens on 29 November - more photos below.
I have checked my calendar - and it is not April 1st.

...it looks more appropriate to Verdi's style than those settings congested German opera houses recently.
btw - as to settings - I am very fond of Lucrezia Borgia of Teatro Arcimboldi/Scala with Mariella Devia in 2002. This was the style , a real style and chic.

Oh dear. Angie was no fool to refuse a blonde wig. Placido looks like a refugee from a Monty Python production of Cyrano. Entire Ministry of Silly Walks at no extra charge.

Can't see any tenor (apart from PD) listed on the website cast sheet - are they doing without or is Placido doing double duty?

Pictures make it look more like something from the Horrible Histories Opera Company. Brace yourself for di Luna's celebrated caballeta "Nato a governare".

Anna needs to soften her eyebrow and lip color to tone with the wig--unless she wants to continue to look like a refugee from Alice in Wonderland.

And who is the person in the red fright wig meant to be? Not Azucena surely?!
15 November 2013 at 01:52 PM
...ooops - Antonenko has cancelled it seems.

I have no words, really!
Actually, I do have, but I'm afraid I'd be censored....

Gaston Rivero is Manrico! New face, but I heard he should be good.
