With a few days to go until the Teatro Real in Madrid make the official announcement of their 2014-15 season on 17 February, the classical website Codalario have published full details.
The abrupt mid-year switch of artistic directors is apparent in the programming. No doubt the two brand new operas and the La Fura dels Baus Fidelio were commissioned back in the Mortier era. Alongside these are more bankable prospects like Mc Vicar's La traviata and the much-travelled Laurent Pelly La fille du régiment. Budget cuts mean that it's not a great season for superstar singers, though Domingo turns up in the pit.
Here's the full list:
El público (Castro / Casado) - world premiere, based on the Lorca play
La traviata (McVicar / Palumbo)
Fidelio (Ollé / Haenchen) - new production
La ciudad de las mentiras (Rebstock / Engel) - world premiere
Goyescas/Gianni Schicchi (Gómez, Allen / Domingo) - yes, that Domingo
Romeo et Juliette (concert version / Plasson) - with Roberto Alagna and Sonya Yoncheva
