Tomorrow, this could be you!
Anyone lucky enough to be in New York tomorrow (13 March) should head for the Met Opera shop, where Jonas Kaufmann is doing a signing session at 3pm.
Tip - it's likely to be popular, so get there early.
Unfortunately, "this could be you" was not possible at the Met today. No photos allowed! Strict security, I believe due to the pushing, shoving, disrespectful mob that mauled Jonas last February 22nd after the "Werther" matinee. Unusual for him at the Met, Jonas did not appear outside the stage door exit after that episode but once. A security guard told met today that all of this comes from the artist and/or the artist's manager, not from the Met security staff. Such is the price respectful fans pay for the shovers. But it was still a great afternoon at the Opera Shop, each person having a few minutes' conversation with JK, and able to have up to four CDs or DVDs signed. Some of us snuck in copies of "Meinen Die Wirklich Mich" and our Met "Werther" programs, and Jonas charmingly obliged.

Over 300 people showed up for the signing. Strict security rules applied. No "this could be you", because no photos allowed! Still a great afternoon, despite the limits. Only four CDs or DVDs allowed for signing. But some of us were able to have copies of "Meinen Die Wirklich Mich?" and "Werther" programs signed as well. All much more regulated than any previous Met Jonas signing. Also, Jonas did not appear but twice outside the stage door exit after aa performances so far, to the disappointment of waiting fans. Probably this was due to the pushing, shoving, disrespectful fans who surrounded him after the matinee on February 22nd, causing him to shout, "Stop pushing! Everyone will get an autograph and a photo, but you must stop pushing!" A security guard told me that the subsequent changes in exposure come from the artist or the artist's manager, not from the Met security staff. This is the price respectful fans pay for the shovers. But is was still a great afternoon!

Manou, the moniker actually refers to my transatlantic trips, but very funny! Ironically, during and just after the signing, the Met Opera
Shop staff were busy taking photos, now posted on their website. Any bets as to whether Jonas will appear outside the stage door after the final "Werther" performance Saturday? Je pense que non....
