Arcadi Volodos and Riccardo Chailly with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra

I probably would have skipped this boxful of Russian-Italian soft centres if it hadn't been for the presence of Arcadi Volodos, a pianist revered across the Channel, but unfairly dismissed over here as a mere banger. Though it's true he can be inconsistent, either Riccardo Chailly and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra or Tchaikovsky's First Piano Concerto clearly brought out his best.
