John Fulljames, co-founder and Artistic Director of The Opera Group, is to become Associate Director of Opera at the Royal Opera House from September, joining the incoming Director of Opera, Kasper Holten.
Known mainly for radical yet accessible productions of contemporary works (he's currently working on next week's world premiere of Luke Bedford's Seven Angels), Fulljames's directorial work at the ROH has so far been restricted to the Linbury Studio.
As a working director himself, Kasper Holten won't be able to commit full time to Covent Garden, so this appointment looks like a practical move, as well as a commitment to a more innovative approach with future productions.
