Diana Damrau presses some Austrian buttons

The hills are alive with the sound of knives being sharpened.

This is how the Schwarzenberg Schubertiade announced the cancellation of Diana Damrau's scheduled September concerts:

"Diana Damrau has been offered the chance to sing the title role in “Lucia di Lammermoor“ by the Metropolitan Opera in New York. She will replace Anna Netrebko. However Ms Damrau’s debut in this role can only take place if many of her other engagements are cancelled. And unfortunately her three concerts at the Schubertiade in Schwarzenberg will be amongst those affected. The manner in which this annoying and legally questionable cancellation was passed on to us by Diana Damrau’s agency was somewhat offensive".

If only the Royal Opera House could spice up their bland and dreary cast change announcements with The Truth now and again.....
