Can you summarise an opera plot in 140 characters or less?
That's the challenge of the Operaplot competition launching on Twitter today.
Blogger The Omniscient Mussel started the whole thing. She's already run the contest once - the winning entry was "Seamstress pals around with bohemians in a December-May affair Receives muff as parting gift".
Now it's on to Round 2, and she's persuaded opera companies all over the globe to provide some fabulous prizes for the best entry. And in an even more brilliant coup, Danielle De Niese has been recruited as the competition's judge.
The full rules can be found here.
In the 80's, there was a small book --it could fit in the palm of your hand-- called "Opera Plots Made Easy". The best was for "Pelleas et Melisande": Nothing happens, Melisande dies.
