What's the most popular English opera in Germany? By far? Performed up and down the country, several times a year, by both professional and amateur ensembles? (clue - it's not by Britten. Or Purcell.)

This was on at the Gartnerplatz Theatre in Munich when I was there, but I didn't have a free night. There is an old recording of the Pirates with Martha Moedl as Ruth. I just wander how you would translate "I'm the model of a modern Major General"!

I have that recording and may even post clips from it at some point. The CD also includes a peculiar selection of extras ranging from Un bel si vedremo in English to Night and Day. Get it here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Piraten-Pirates-Penzance-Bennie-Bonacio/dp/B00005YA9P
And it's Ich bin der typisch' englische moderne Generalmajor if you're wondering!
