Hibla Gerzmava??!! I have the sense that there are a lot more singers available these days than, say, 20 or 30 years ago. New names seems to pop up all the time. Could I be mistaken?

well there is a theory that Boheme comes around so often you often get good up and coming singers who can be safely given a try out; in the sure and certain knowledge if it all goes horribly wrong most of the audience won't notice ! Doesn't always hold true - Beczala is not exactly unknown!

I did see one R Alagna way back in 1992 - I wonder what ever happened to him?

Apparently Beczala was suffering and had to be replaced after act 1.
