What's the secret behind the most famous chest in opera?
Nathan Gunn, who "works out only in a pair of athletic shorts because he sweats "like crazy"" reveals his workout routine to a panting Wall Street Journal.
His favourite way to release pent-up pre-show adrenaline? "A set of incline push-ups" in his dressing room. "I do just enough to tire my muscles out," he says.
'Fraid Gunn is pushing his body to deflect attention from his so-so singing. A really first class singer would be above this kind of thing, in my view.

I think the basic thing is this- less attention to your abs, Nathan honey, and more on your diaphragm. Which needs serious exercise cause no one can fucking hear you from the audience.

Mr. Gunn is a Professor of Voice and understands well the importance of not pushing his somewhat, lighter voice. Vocal Pedagogy practitioners caution premature wear to a lighter voice, when pushed to it's limits, is detrimental to one's vocal health. Perhaps lighter voices should be presented in smaller venue settings.
