The Telegraph reports that BBC Radio, seething with jealousy at Popstar to Operastar's 4.5m viewing stats, is to launch a cut-price competitor, an 'Opera X-Factor'.
Aspiring opera singers who pass the initial auditions will attend masterclasses with Dame Kiri Te Kanawa. The best fifteen will then sing their stuff on Radio 2's Friday Night is Music Night before a final contest decides the lucky winner who gets to perform with Dame Kiri at this summer's Proms in the Park.
The BBC apparently "hope to discover a unique talent who will go on to have a career in the world's opera houses for many years to come." Though as it's all on radio, fugly tubbies who can't act stand a pretty good chance of winning too.
