Looks like the Mariinsky won't be paying a visit next summer - the Royal Opera House has been hired out by Rufus Wainwright instead. A five night residency at the end of July includes his brilliant Judy Garland tribute show and a concert version of his operatic tribute Prima Donna as well as his own songs.
Tickets went on sale today (£25 to - gulp - £100) and availability is currently good.
No doubt we shall be seeing special offers for this nearer the date.
Mariinsky website says "World famous Mariinsky (Kirov) Ballet and Opera Theatre - Opera and Concert Hall do not have any performances from 01 August 2011 to 31 August 2011" so maybe we shall be seeing them a little later than normal.
