What's left of the Metropolitan Opera's star-depleted troops made it to Tokyo today to begin the Met's tour of Japan. L-R: tenor Yonghoon Lee, soprano Marina Poplavskaya, general manager Peter Gelb, principal guest conductor Fabio Luisi, baritone Martiusz Kwiecien, tenor Piotr Beczala, soprano Barbara Frittoli, baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky, mezzo-soprano Ekaterina Gubanova, and bass Rene Pape.
Below, conductors Fabio Luisi and Gianandrea Noseda.
Not pictured, but bass-baritone John Relyea is in Japan with the 'troops' as well.

Nice pic! And nice to report on the "happy few." Tangentially, I'm beginning to suspect that Rene Pape actually is as cool as he always looks. Formidable.

Funny, Lucy, my first reaction was "why the hell is Pape wearing a Janker?" (I'm not sure he is. But it looks like it.)

Well, perhaps Anna is pregnant, but I am very disappointed in Jonas Kaufmann and Joseph Calleja for pulling out and letting down their Japanese fans.

La Poplavskaya is smiling!

Is John Relyea a star, though?
