On Sunday 2 October Daniel Barenboim will - for the first time ever in his long career - conduct an opera by Rossini.
Ruth Berghaus's ancient and much-loved production of Il barbiere di Siviglia prefaces the Berlin Staatsoper's season in a special show modelled on the anteprima (= remarketed dress rehearsal) successfully introduced at Barenboim's other house, La Scala. It's open only to members of the patrons society and under-35s, who can buy seats for just 7 euros.
How, in God's name, did you find a picture of a dog that looks like Barenboim?!?! I will be laughing until next week.

The dog is very cute. The comment made by DS, however, is mean-spirited, cruel, and totally unworthy of Intermezzo. Laughing until next week?? What the hell for? I must be missing something.

@ LES,
er...my personal taste for humour, I suppose. I intended nothing mean-spirited or cruel by my comment and indeed, as you say, the dog is cute - which makes me more puzzled by your outrage, unless I am missing alternative translations of the word?

DS - Sorry for my little "outburst". For some reason, I over-reacted.
I'm a high school History and American Lit. teacher and I listen to kids insulting each other all the time, and it gets me very upset when they disrespect each other. I think I carried a bit of the "strict teacher" home with me yesterday afternoon and behaved accordingly.
Please forgive me. I love the dog. This is one of those instances when I think my "id" dominated my "super-ego". I'm sorry. Now that I look at your posting again, it IS kind of funny.
Pace,Pace!

@Les Mitnick - what a lovely and elegant apology. Very unusual on a blog, too. You are restoring my faith in humankind.

Calm down dear(s) !
In any case the dog clearly looks like the childhood Mozart
