Angela Gheorghiu has just confirmed - in front of a live audience at a Royal Opera House promotional event - that she'll be sharing the stage with her husband in La Bohème next year.
(If they can find a conductor brave enough.)
daddy I want a harpsichord
The event is to happen at the ROH,in 2012, celebrating their meeting in La Boheme 20 years ago!!! I wish them many many ...many years ahead!

Leonard Slatkin is the obvious choice for this gig.

Well I just spent the evening at the Wigmore listening to Christian Gerhaher's Winterreise, and I can only say - you can keep it Miss Gheorghiu. CG is the real deal - humble, incisive and beautiful, and your ego is writing cheques your voice can't cash... I love Top Gun.... Go Mav. (although we can probably live without the beach volleyball scene - AG might be acceptable in that role...)

Having been to both the current revival of Faust at the ROH and its first outing back in 2004, I must say I far preferred Alagna to Grigolo. Wonder if they'll manage to get Pappano conducting their Boheme in 2012?

Unless she cancels, of course...

Together on stage again???? I'd be very surprised if this comes to pass. There's an uncertainty and unreliability about both of them that it's hard to realize that they are still actually in the business of operatic performing. If SHE pitches a bitch or cancels, then HE'S on good behavior. If HE goes off, then SHE quiets down. One thing for certain ------- they've given plenty of people ulcers and anxiety attacks!

The rest of the cast is going to have to take a deep breath and steel themselves...

@ Rannaldini: Gerhaher - he's why we fell in love with voice and opera in the first place. Incredible. Unmissible. And yet by horrible mischance I had booked for Faust this Saturday, so couldn't complete the Wigmore cycle. AG better make it worthwhile.

I am going to Faust tomorrow - Alagna was always (and still is to a certain extent) peerless in the French repertory.
As long as the conductor uses a machine gun rather than a baton - then he should be okay. Its not as if there will be any rehearsals to worry about !
If it all goes wrong - then at least Boheme is cast-able at the drop of a hat and most of the audience would be none the wiser !

Mark Elder is due to conduct Boheme at Covent Garden at some point. He might be an obvious choice as has conducted Angela recently.

@ Siegfried,
I think what you meant was that Mark Elder has had recent experience of trying to keep up with whatever tempo Angela has decided on from moment to moment.
