Wings and nighties all present and correct. Tonight is the premiere of Kasper Holten's first production since he became Director of Opera at Covent Garden - but it's not in London.
The Deutsche Oper Berlin's Lohengrin features in the title role Klaus Florian Vogt, who stepped in at late notice to replace Marco Jentzsch. Ricarda Merbeth is Elsa, Petra Lang is Ortrud, Gordon Hawkins is Telramund and Albert Dohmen is Heinrich. More photos below.
i sincerely hope that Kaspar Holten will get Klaus Florian into the Royal Opera House sometime soon. Don't like the wings though!

Intermezzo replies - KFV was in the house (rehearsing Lulu) when the last ROH Lohengrin was on - a criminal waste of talent.

Could this be a co-production with Covent Garden?

Intermezzo replies - it doesn't say anywhere that it is. Covent Garden is not in the habit of co-producing with the DOB, and I would guess Holten was booked before he took the ROH job in any case.

Looks like they raided a linen closet for sheets and blankets, cut holes for the neck, and then threw them over the singers. Elsa's outfit is especially amateurish. There is a difference between simplicity and garbage.

One German reviewer called it "chaotic kitsch" and that was one of the better ones.
