The final instalment of Andreas Kriegenburg's Ring cycle opens tonight at the Bavarian State Opera with what looks suspiciously like a topical spin. Götterdämmerung features Stephen Gould as Siegfried and Nina Stemme as Brünnhilde. Kent Nagano conducts.
I'll be seeing it next week, and you can listen to it live on BR Klassik at 16:00 (3pm UK).

You blogged some time back on the Wagner Festival in Leipzig next May. Booking opened today for the Leipzig Oper and Gewandhaus and it is a unique chance to see Rienzi, Die Feen and Das Liebesverbot over one weekend.

Intermezzo replies - Thanks - but Das Liebesverbot doesn't open in Leipzig until 2014, does it?

At least the Euro crisis makes the beer cheaper than it was 2 years ago.

If this is the way The Ring is being presented these days, I'm grateful for the fact that I can listen to the Solti/Nilsson and Furtwangler/Flagstad Rings on CD. My mind can conjure up what I'd want to see.
And producers and stage directors are allowed to get away with THIS?

Intermezzo replies - Luckily for you, it's not travelling to the US. I understand it was very well received by the audience for whom it was designed.

Looks like a total blast. Wish I could be living in wonderful Muenchen, with a subscription to the Staatsoper. Dammit, wish I were actually IN this production.............

For a more traditional Ring look forward to the mew recording of the 2011/12 Lepage production from the MetOpera, it is expected from DeutscheGramaphon in late Autumn. Having spent the last two weekends watching it broadcast from New York I can assure you of an amazing experience or better still hop on plane to see the real thing. Happy listening
