After a well-received debut at the 2011 Edinburgh Festival, the song cycle Ten Plagues makes its way to Wilton's Music Hall in April.
With music by Conor Mitchell and inspiration from Daniel Defoe’s A Journal of the Plague Year, Mark Ravenhill's libretto follows a man's journey through the streets of London during the Great Plague of 1665. Resonances with today's AIDS 'plague', though never explicit, haunt the work.
The workshop version I (and maybe you) saw in 2010 employed three singers, one of them a trained operatic voice. The final version trims the number down to just one - Marc Almond. Yes, that one.
