First up on Claudio Abbado's Royal Festival Hall date with the Orchestra Mozart: Haydn's Surprise Symphony.
And second: a surprise pianist.
Substituting for the previously-advertised Maria Joao Pires on 1 October is the elusive Martha Argerich.
Mozart's Piano Concerto No.9 in E flat is currently on the bill, but I wouldn't be surprised to see that change.
Still plenty of tickets left, but mostly at the back.
Exciting! I had thought that would be the case and that it was just wrongly advertised.. The Orchestra Mozart website lists Argerich as the performer of that concerto at several other European cities (Pires playing different pieces), so it made little sense that Pires would play the Jeunehomme in London.. That being said, we all know Argerich isn't the most reliable! She canceled last night's season opener in Bologna.. though I'm very much hoping she'll make it to Lucerne tomorrow!
