Who is responsible for keeping an eye on the weapons in Carmen and Tosca (Traviata being short on sharp instruments)?

There are tables in the Hotel Sacher's downstairs torte-joint from which it is possible to have a view of the Staatsoper's stage door. Seems to me the least some public-spirited citizen of Vienna should do is guzzle and stuff their face for days on extended catfight watch. Were I there, rest assured I would be prepared to make this great personal sacrifice in pursuit of the higher truth (i.e. dirt).

Someone wasn't paying very close attention to the schedule was he? Of course these are grown ups who already made decisions about spouses..... But I wouldn't want to get in between any of them. Vienna should know better....

Lance Ryan was to sing Don José and bowed out only a few days ago. Alagna's decision to step in dates from yesterday or the day before; by then he sure as hell knew exactly who was singing when!
In any case, this Carmen has suddenly become very appealing all around and the season start looks like a scheduling coup for Dominique Meyer, especially next week, when in addition to the "Alagna Family Show" you can also see a matinee with José Carreras and Otello with Harteros.

Haha! This could be a re-run of the bother the Royal Opera press people had trying to keep Vishnevskaya and Obraztsova from meeting each other backstage when they were there for Tosca and Boris respectively. For different reasons, of course! :)
