With only a couple of weeks to go before the official announcement, the programme for the 2014 Salzburg Festival has been published, confirming the highlights leaked/revealed a couple of months ago.
The operas are Don Giovanni, Charlotte Salomon (a new work by Marc-André Dalbavie), Der Rosenkavalier, Il trovatore (with Anna Netrebko and Placido Domingo), Fierrabras, La Cenerentola, La Favorite (in concert) and a partial Tristan und Isolde (in concert). Full casting is listed below.
But it's not just about opera. One of the strongest parts of the concert programme is the recital series, which includes Anna Prohaska, Thomas Hampson, Christian Gerhaher, Anja Harteros, Piotr Beczala, Diana Damrau, Elīna Garanča, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Evgeny Kissin, Grigory Sokolov, Maurizio Pollini and Anne-Sophie Mutter. Rudolf Buchbinder tackles the complete Beethoven piano sonatas.
Orchestrally speaking, there's a contemporary series based on Dalbavie, Rihm and modern Islamic composers, and the Vienna Philharmonic provide a full Bruckner symphony cycle.
The pre-Festival 'Ouverture spirituelle' looks in many ways more interesting than the Festival itself. Beginning with Haydn's Creation, it traverses Monteverdi's Vespers, Handel's Dixit Dominus and Israel in Egypt, Bach's Das wohltemperierte Klavier, Rameau motets, Reger's Requiem, various Mozart works, and a number of Islamic/Middle Eastern concerts, including a programme from Jordi Savall.

Don't play it alla Lebrecht!

Intermezzo replies - That wasn't my source; readers emailed me to say the information was available. I don't follow you on Twitter so there's no way I can know what you're publishing there. I can assure you that if I'd spotted it two days ago, as you appear to have done, I would have published the details right then. And since the information is available to all on the official Festival website and has not been removed after your disclosure, I don't think 'data leak' quite covers it.

Eschenbach might take the Don at a relatively slow tempo. Might be interesting for Finch'han Del Vino.

You have a point. His Cosi this year went over 190 minutes.
