Valentino designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli closed the Paris 2014 summer couture season yesterday with a bravura display of opera-inspired gowns.
The show opened with their take on La traviata, above, where part of the score was embroidered on a pale translucent gown. Carmen, La bohème and Aida were amongst other operas referenced.
The Indian setting of Lakmé inspired their final number, below, featuring a Mughal-style tiger appliqued on dark tulle.

They are exquisite, proving once again what many of us have realised ie the deeply regenerative effect of this demanding art form.
