Angelika Kirchschlager's duet partners are normally drawn from the operatic aristocracy, the likes of Simon Keenlyside and Ian Bostridge.
So stepping out on stage with Rufus Wainwright on 9 March in St. Pölten will be a first.
And in more ways than one - she'll be singing Wainwright's own songs. Wainwright himself intends to tackle the notoriously challenging Les nuits d'été. Bravery required from all quarters I think.
loved the last sentence!
i just don't get the allure wainwright holds on the "serious" music front.
i first encountered him doing a concert years ago at the verbier festival. didn't appreciate his "talents" then and can't fathom his enduring "appeal." and he fancies himself a composer as well - didn't he write some operatic drivel on the callas legend?
lets hope the ghost of berlioz puts a stop to this next project....oh my lord!! really??? what a world!!

Sir Rudolf Bing used to refer to St. Polten as a sleazy downmarket suburb of Vienna with low standards.
Is there to be no progress?

It seems Ms Kirkschlager is suffering from "severe exhaustion." Replacing her is Janis Kelly, the soprano who originated the main role in Prima Donna.
Too bad - would have been a rather entertaining evening, I imagine.
