Want to know more about Anna Netrebko?
This recent Russian documentary begins at the end, in the $20m Manhattan apartment Anna says she'll have to work the rest of her life to pay for. It goes on to expose the truth about her discovery by Valery Gergiev - she auditioned, like everyone else - and her Mariinsky cleaning job - she used to pay an older woman to do the really tough bits. Revealing contributions from friends and family (and excellent English subtitles) make it the most complete biography I've seen on film.
Thanks. I loved the part about showing up to buy her first apartment in Russia with her agent, a case full of cash, and a gun.

I finally got a chance to watch this -- thanks for drawing attention to it. In addition to her prodigious talent -- that great voice which is what draws us to her -- there is also of course how exquisite she is to look at. But what strikes me most about her here is her wry smile and sense of humor. It is impossible not to like her.
